It all started when…
After buying a MAC for editing his films and photos, he couldn't see himself wasting all the beautiful cardboard it came in. He decided to use the cardboard to paint on instead of canvas. The Puppy Chulos came to be while in quarantine. He decided to capture his beloved rescue dogs’ personalities on cardboard. The Puppy Chulos will also be animated in 2022.
The Puppy Chulos Coloring Book complements the short animated film of the same name, produced and directed by Juan Escobedo and based on his Puppy Chulos characters. Together, the book and films bring storytelling into communities across Los Angeles and beyond, wherever Escobedo is invited to present. Each short animation features age-inclusive storylines designed to spark conversation, creativity, and connection through the act of coloring. To date, two Puppy Chulos short films have been produced.
