The Puppy Chulos

Original Characters, Illustration & Animation by Juan Escobedo

The Puppy Chulos is an original character art and animation project created by Mexican-American multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker Juan Escobedo in Los Angeles, California.

Featuring a colorful cast of playful, mischievous, and expressive characters, The Puppy Chulos combines humor, illustration, and visual storytelling. The project reflects Escobedo's creative approach to character development, drawing inspiration from imagination, popular culture, and the personalities that surround us.

Through illustration, animation, and character-based storytelling, The Puppy Chulos brings together art, humor, and creativity for audiences of different ages.

The Puppy Chulos Coloring Book complements the short animated film of the same name, produced and directed by Juan Escobedo and based on his Puppy Chulos characters. Together, the book and films bring storytelling into communities across Los Angeles and beyond, wherever Escobedo is invited to present. Each short animation features age-inclusive storylines designed to spark conversation, creativity, and connection through the act of coloring. To date, two Puppy Chulos short films have been produced.
